Algeria and Morocco to withdraw Cameroon from CAN 2022?

Will it be the same story? Will Cameroon lose the organisation of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2022 again? The Algerian sports press has already put the salt on this subject. It has announced that Morocco is ready and is even preparing to withdraw the 2022 CAN from Cameroon. A way to divide and conquer. The president of the Algerian Football Federation, Mohamed Raouraoua, would even like to introduce this competition. It is even his will, according to the Algerian press.

As a reminder, Cameroon has been withdrawn from the organisation of the CAN in 2019. This is because of the delay noted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the realization of the infrastructure that should host the competition.

Lobbying

“La Gazette du Fennec”, an Algerian sports website, reported that Morocco is developing a plan to eliminate Cameroon from the 2022 CAN list. "Morocco is lobbying to steal the CAN 2022 from Cameroon. This is the title of the article.

Fouzi Lekjaâ, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and second vice-president of CAF, is currently adopting a lobbying strategy to convince the influential members of the confederation body to award the organisation of the next CAN to the Cherifian kingdom. But this plan seems to be a failure because Cameroon presents, on its side, all the guarantees to go through with the CAN.

Major concern

Still under the shock of the withdrawal of the African Cup of Nations 2019 Cameroonians are currently in deep concern. The decision of CAF to postpone the ceremony of the draw which was scheduled for June 25 has further increased their concerns. But the Cameroon Football Federation reassures that the competition in the country of the Indomitable Lions will take place. On the other hand, the hope of Mohamed Raouraoua, allowed him to say that the withdrawal of Cameroon from the competition would be an advantage for Algeria which wishes like its rival, Morocco, to recover the competition.

Amara Charaf-Eddine made a remark at the Extraordinary General Assembly (EGM) of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee on Tuesday about hosting the competition in Algeria if Cameroon withdraws. "If Cameroon withdraws from the organisation of the 2022 African Cup of Nations, we will discuss with the Algerian authorities the possibility of Algeria hosting the competition," she said.

So far, nothing has changed. It will always be Cameroon that will host the 2022 African Cup of Nations from the beginning of January 2022, unless there is a change in time, especially after the draw.
