Algeria: Drug traffickers disguised as women arrested.

A group of drug traffickers was apprehended by the judicial police services of the wilaya of Algiers.

A 1.5 kg of hard drugs including 720 grams of heroin, 670 grams of cocaine and 80 grams of Cannabis, were seized after a search operation, according to the explanations of the officer Ouelha Hadj Nacer with the media.

This network consists of 14 people, including 4 Algerians and the 10 others of a foreign nationality, aged between 20 and 24 years old. According to the judicial police officer; this operation also made it possible to put an end to human trafficking.

Finally to camouflage their trafficking procedures; they wore women's clothes, carrying hard drugs which they swallowed in the form of capsules. The capsule carriers were examined by the doctors of the Mustapha University Hospital Center who confirmed the existence of the capsules in the stomachs of these traffickers. Besides the amounts of drugs; the services of the PJ of Algiers seized an amount of 86,000 DA and 100 euros, two passenger cars and a quantity of mobile phones.

Trafficking in hard drugs is becoming worrying in Algeria. According to the National Office for the Fight against Drugs and Drug Addiction, more than 66 tonnes of cannabis resin were seized in Algeria during the first 11 months of 2021. For hard drugs, the quantity of cocaine seized in Algeria recorded a "substantial" increase, going from 29,854.947 grams during the first 11 months of 2020 to 502,858.866 grams in the same period of 2021, an increase of 1,584.34%. The quantity of heroin seized, on the other hand, fell by 21.74%, dropping from 2,371.518 grams to 1,855.982 grams during the same reference period.
