A violent fire broke out in the premises of the general management of the company Orange-Centrafrique. It happened on the night of Sunday to Monday, June 7, around 22 hours. The building was located on Avenue Barthélemy Boganda, in the Lakouanga district, in the second arrondissement of Bangui.

The cause is still unknown

The cause of the fire is not yet officially known. However, according to the first elements of information gathered by the CNC, the electrical short-circuit would be the cause of the tragedy. The fire lasted several hours. The flames were later brought under control by the fire brigade, which arrived at the scene in an emergency.

According to witnesses, part of the technical building caught fire at around 10pm. A huge thick black smoke came out of the roof of the call centre and the battery room as well as other technical premises.

For the time being, the Orange company has just published a press release announcing the disruption of its network. It had informed its subscribers of a network disruption for some time. They stated that the fire broke out on the evening of Sunday 6 June in its technical premises at its main site in Sodiam.

The installations were seriously damaged by the fire

The crisis procedure has already been activated to assess the impact and possible options to solve the problem. They will employ all means to start the progressive restart of their services.

The fire at Orange Centrafrique comes two months after the fire at the French embassy in Bangui. For many Central Africans, this act could be criminal and not accidental.
