The euro traded for 0.9998 dollars on Wednesday 13 July. This was the first time since 2002, the year it was introduced.

The euro, weighed down by a gloomy outlook for the European economy and the possibility of a halt to Russian gas supplies, plunged below the symbolic one-dollar threshold on Wednesday, the first time it has been crossed since December 2002.

As inflation accelerates in the United States and opens the door to even tighter monetary policy across the Atlantic, the euro traded for 0.9998 dollars at around 12.45 GMT, the first time it has done so since the year it was introduced.
