Ghana's timber exports up 20 percent

Ghana's timber exports have soared this year compared to the year 2020. It rose by up to 19% in the first two months alone, with a total of 42,173m³, according to information from the Timber Industry Development Division (TIDD). In terms of value, the performance was also good because the export earnings increased by 28%, which is equivalent to 22.69 million euros against 17.64 million euros before.

Sawn timber, logs, plywood, milled and molded sawn timber were the top 5 most exported woods to Ghana. In species, teak, ceiba, wawa, denya and mahogany were the most ordered.

According to Commodafrica, Ghana mainly exports its wood products to Asian countries such as China, India and Vietnam. It also sends them to European countries like Italy and Germany. As for the regional export, this country sends these products to Togo and Burkina Faso. According to the statistics of recipients this year, Asia received the 64% of the product, 15% for Europe, 11% for Africa, 5% for the Americas and 4.4% for the Near East.
