An attack by an unidentified armed terrorist group took place in central Mali on Sunday 12 September 2021. As a result of the ambush, five Malian soldiers lost their lives, according to a provisional assessment by the Malian army. The jihadists, on the other hand, lost three people.

According to the Malian army in a statement, a Malian military patrol reacted quickly to an ambush by an unknown armed terrorist group at midday on Sunday in the Macina circle. According to the provisional toll, the military lost five men and the jihadists lost three during the confrontation.

In addition to this, there was also damage on both sides. 5 Malian military vehicles were burned and 3 vehicles of the attackers were destroyed, the source said.

2 more attacks on Saturday

Prior to Sunday's attack, three UN peacekeepers were wounded on Saturday by an explosive device near their camp in Kidal, in the northeast of the country.

On Saturday, two Moroccan truck drivers were killed a few hundred kilometres north of Bamako by unidentified assailants. According to Moroccan diplomatic and Malian security sources, they were transporting goods.

Mali has been plunged into a series of troubles that have left thousands dead, including many civilians, since the outbreak of independence and jihadist rebellions in the north in 2012, even though the international community and the intervention of UN, French and African forces have supported it.

The North and Centre of the country has become the epicentre of terrorist activity due to inter-communal conflicts, as well as Burkina Faso and Niger.
