Somalia: Suicide bombing at Somali army camp

A bomb exploded at a Somali military base on Friday. The militant group Al-Shabaab, a small group linked to Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack. The military base was in the Middle Shabelle region. The incident had aroused the suspicions of the Somali army, Caasimada Online reported Saturday.

Coexistence destroyed by the attack

The attack has suspended cooperation between army units in the region amid fears that it could pit them against each other. "The car bomb that targeted us yesterday bypassed another base housing some of the troops [members of Gorgor's special forces]. and the vehicle itself continued on the road in a prohibited area, and the incident has created suspicion among us," a member of the 4th brigade told Caasimada Online, after the troops mutinied because of the blast.

The base was home to soldiers who opposed an extension of President Farmajo's term in office and took control of several parts of the capital Mogadishu in April during clashes between rival army factions.
According to the military, Gorgor's troops or the Turkish-trained Somali special forces refused to live with our troops in a camp. They even refused to eat with them and work with them.

The car involved had bypassed the base. This deserves a thorough investigation according to them.

At least eight soldiers were killed in Friday's blast and more than 12 others, including four senior commanders, were injured. Colonel Saney Abdulle, a commander who deployed his troops to the capital Mogadishu in April in opposition to an extension of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo's term in office, is among those injured in the attack.
