By 2022, it is predicted that the worldwide gaming market would be worth more than $200 billion. GameUp Africa seeks to teach future industry professionals so that Africa may partake in the market share currently held mostly by China and the USA.

For its upcoming session, which begins on Friday, August 15, GameUp Africa, an online training program for game creators in Africa, is currently accepting applications. The initiative is designed for anyone without any expertise who wish to start creating mobile games and is run by Google and Maliyo Games, a mobile game development business with offices in Nigeria.

Only residents of Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, or Cameroon are permitted to join GameUp Africa. Candidates must possess fundamental computer or programming abilities, a solid command of English, a computer, and a smartphone.

The course will cover subjects including game mechanics, in-game monetization, gamification strategies, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and collaboration over the course of five months.

Participants will finish the program with a certificate of completion and be qualified for an internship with one of the program's partner organizations.

The application deadline is Friday, August 5. Candidates must take an aptitude exam before beginning the program on August 10.

The program's goal is to create a strong community that will help Africa expand its video game industry and get into the lucrative global market.

The worldwide gaming industry, which is dominated by China and the US, produced $192.7 billion in 2021, an increase of 7.6% from the previous year. This rise, which is mostly due to the expansion of mobile gaming, might approach $200 billion this year, according to the analytical company Newzoo, a specialist in the video game sector.
