The inhabitants of Andratovo Tanambao in Tsiroanomandidy in the western part of Antananarivo province are in shock. A rape has been reported in the locality, and the victim is an infant barely 11 months old. The little girl is the child of a schoolteacher. The teacher had entrusted custody of her baby to a teenager who was also doing the daily chores. The events took place on Thursday, when she was absent to collect paddy donated by the parents. The young man, who was alone with the baby, took advantage of the situation to rape her, reports the newspaper L'Express de Madagascar.

After abusing the infant, the servant abandoned the baby in a mosquito net and fled. He then asked a neighbor to watch over the little girl, as she was asleep. Alerted by the child's disturbing moans and cries, the neighbor rushed over to check on her. To her astonishment, the baby was in an almost vegetative state, encased in the mosquito net. The blanket on which he had been placed was covered in blood. The neighbor immediately raised the alarm, but the alleged rapist is still missing.
