Mayotte: An operation to expel Comorians is approaching.

For a few days now, native Comorians living illegally on the island of Mayotte have been very worried after the announcement of the plan for an expulsion operation; more specifically, migrants living in shanty towns.

Against the backdrop of the migration crisis, Mayotte, a French department in the Indian Ocean, is riven by violence. Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior and Overseas France, designed the expulsion operation and named it 'Wuambushu', which means 'take back' in Mauritanian. It has been validated by Emmanuel Macron; and it should start on 20 April, at the end of Ramadan.

Comoros; an expulsion that has become a political affair!

The Comoros are asking Paris to abandon the expulsion. The President of the Union of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, reacted to the plans put in place by the French Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories Gérald Darmanin. By asking France to abandon an operation to "destroy shanty towns" in Mayotte and "expel all their undocumented occupants" on Monday, the Comoros took a stand for the first time since the project was revealed in February.

For his part, the president of the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights, Jean-Marie Burguburu, has written to the Minister of the Interior and Overseas France to ask him to "renounce" this project. According to him, there is a risk of "aggravating social fractures and tensions in an already very fragile context".
