Angola enters the big leagues. In view of technological progress, Angola wants to transform its current passport into a biometric format. According to information from the Immigration and Foreigners Service, the first model of this passport will be launched before the end of 2021.

Biometric Passport

The biometric passport is a paper and electronic version of a document containing the information and identity of a person, including passengers. It uses biometrics to verify the citizenship of travellers. It is also used to apply for visas at embassies and consulates.

A tiny RFID computer chip stores all personal information and owner data. These include: the photo that sits on the identity page; the fingerprints collected when applying to the issuing body.

Avoiding fraud

Data security is one of the major advantages of using biometric passports. Indeed, this is difficult to forge and copy. This is why Angola is moving ahead.

The objective of this renovation is to avoid fraud and abstain from copies, clarified the Immigration and Foreigners Service. He said that the first model of the biometric passport will be released by the end of 2021. "At this time, we are touching the final technological details to move forward, we intend to launch the biometric passport in the last quarter of 2021."

According to reports, a new census of immigrants will also take place this year.
