The Nyiragongo volcano erupted last Saturday in the city of Goma in DRC. According to a provisional report, it caused at least 15 deaths, 9 of which died as a result of the accident of the trucks transporting the victims. More than 1.5 million people were threatened by the volcano.

The sudden eruption of the volcano made the Congolese population panic

On Saturday night, Mount Nyiragongo began to shake and sent a flow of boiling lava over the edge. Located at an altitude of 3,470 meters, the lava flows rolled down the slope at more than 100 km/h. Panic-stricken, the population left their houses. People fled to Gisenyi, a nearby town in Rwanda.

A car that was driving survivors out of the eruption area unfortunately fell into a ravine. Nine people were killed. Four inmates of the central prison tried their chances to escape. But the security forces shot them.

In the rush, there were children who were separated from their parents during the panic. According to UNICEF, nearly 150 children were found without families.
