Kenya: Police officer murdered in his car in Nakuru

A police officer was coldly murdered on Sunday night. He was attached to the Nakuru East police division. According to police reports, the victim was found murdered in his car. The car was parked near his residence in Nakuru town.

The deputy county police commander, Joseph Tonui, recognized John Ogweno, a police officer, as the victim. He may have been killed a few hours after midnight, but was found in the morning. He said his colleague was found dead at Kasarani Police Line around 7am by a colleague who reported the incident to Nakuru Central Police Station. The incident is believed to have happened around 2:30 am," said Mr. Tonui.

He explained that the deceased may have been shot at close range, based on various evidence found at the scene.

"We think he was shot in the right side of the head and bled to death. An empty 9mm round was recovered at the scene. The rock used to break the car window and an iron bar were also recovered and treated as evidence," Tonui said.

Police have also opened an investigation into the incident, as the officer's firearm is also missing. Name only he was killed but his service weapon was also stolen. The latter was a Ceska pistol serial number 94676. Efforts are underway to locate and recover the Ceska pistol," Tonui said.

His body has been transported to the PNN morgue. Police are in pursuit of Corporal Caroline Kangogo who is the main suspect in the killing of the gendarme.
