The Congolese authorities announced this Monday 19 April, the beginning of vaccinations against the coronavirus on the whole national territory.

According to the Congolese Minister of Health, Eteni Longondo, "this day marks an important step in the fight against Covid-19 where the health response will be forever strengthened with the vaccination activities that start today. So this is an extremely important moment for our country. "

Scheduled for March 15, the initial operation had been postponed after apprehensions about side effects caused by the Astra Zeneca doses. Indeed, vaccination against the coronavirus is a very sensitive subject in the DRC because of a mistrust of this vaccine. Many have suggested on social networks that it is a matter of conspiracies between the government and foreign countries. However, the authorities have reassured the population by administering the first doses of the vaccine.

Now, the problem is the number of doses received by the country. Indeed, so far, the DRC has obtained only 1.7 million vaccines from the Covax initiative for a population of more than 80 million people. Thus, the doses could be lacking.
