Cash-in-transit robbers attempted to attack a cash-in-transit company. The scene took place in Johannesburg on Thursday morning. Four people had tried to intercept the cash van. They wanted to take all the money during the robbery. Unfortunately, this was not the opinion of the transport officers.

One dead and the others managed to escape

Another suspect was shot and wounded, while two others managed to escape. Police also confiscated two firearms allegedly used in the crime, but no money was stolen.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said the incident occurred at about 8.30am at the R55 shopping centre in Centurion. She said two security guards were collecting money when they were accosted by four men outside the mall, injuring one of them.

"Other security guards chased them and police reinforcements were also activated. A shootout ensued in which one suspect was fatally injured. Another suspect was also injured and taken to a nearby hospital under police supervision," said Mr Mathe.

"Police also recovered two boxes of money stolen by the suspects as well as two firearms used to commit the crime.

Police launched a manhunt for the other two suspects who fled

In a separate incident, a man in his 40s was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon during an armed robbery at a shopping centre on End Street in Doornfontein. Russell Meiring of ER24 said paramedics arrived shortly after 2pm and found the man inside the shopping centre.

"The paramedics examined the man and found he had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, leaving him in a critical condition.

"The man was treated and received advanced life support before being transported to a private hospital for urgent care," said Mr Meiring.

Once again, CIT officers have shown their ability to thwart the plans of cash thieves. These people should never be underestimated. These people are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect sources of income.
