Sudan defends regularization of relations with Israel

At the conference in support of Sudan's transition that took place this Monday in Paris, the chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Transitional Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, defended the normalization of relations between Sudan and Israel. For this reason, he said that this regularization has "nothing to do with the right of the Palestinians to create their own state.

This statement by Abdel Fattah al-Burhane came in the midst of hostility between Israel and Palestine. For a week, the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has been escalating, currently claiming more than 200 lives.

On the France 24 channel, Abdel Fattah al-Burhane said on the sidelines of the economic conference in Paris that "normalization has nothing to do with the right of Palestinians to create their own state, (…) it is a reconciliation with the international community that includes Israel. While making these remarks, Mr. Fattah al-Burhane also wanted to reiterate the position of Sudan in the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with the creation of a Palestinian state.

Indeed, last January, Sudan agreed to normalize its relations with Israel in exchange for American financial aid. As a result, Sudan was able to benefit from a $1 billion U.S. loan that allowed it to pay off some of its outstanding debts to international financial institutions. This American request to Sudan was the latest act of the Trump administration to affirm its support for Israel and to strengthen the cohesion between its allies.
