In support of Sudan's transition, the country's economic partners are meeting in Paris on Monday 17 May to find solutions to the settlement of its debt.

A conference in support of Sudan's transition was organized on Monday, ahead of the summit for a "New Deal" for African development, scheduled for Tuesday, May 18. Now free of the U.S. sanctions that kept Sudan out of the financial markets, the country is preparing its return to the international scene. For this reason, Sudan will gather in Paris its economic partners to help it in the cancellation of its debts.

The objective of this conference is to bring back investments and financing to Sudan. Indeed, after being embargoed by the United States for 20 years, the country is now in crisis. It has been excluded from all sources of international financing, and it currently has a huge external debt of around 50 billion dollars.

Thus, at this meeting in Paris, Sudan will have to look for solutions to clear its debts. And apart from that, it will also have to find an agreement on the debts to these partners.

On the eve of this meeting, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi and Sudan's interim leader, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held talks to prepare for the conference.
