According to Taiwan's military, during extensive drills coordinated by Beijing on Friday, 68 Chinese fighter planes and 13 warships breached the Taiwan Strait's "median line," dividing the island from the mainland. The communist army intentionally crossed the middle line, which the defense minister condemned.

On the first day of historically significant military drills outside Taiwan, China launched missiles on Thursday that purportedly went over Taiwan and apparently made landfall for the first time in Japan's exclusive economic zone.

The US declared that it had postponed an intercontinental missile test in order to prevent escalating the situation, accusing Beijing of "choosing to overreact" to Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. The US also warned that its aircraft carrier USS Reagan would continue to "monitor" the area around the island.

On Thursday, 22 Chinese fighter planes also briefly crossed into Taiwan's air defense zone. On Sunday at noon, the Chinese military drills are scheduled to come to a conclusion.
