Following the death of the head of state, Idriss Déby Itno, who was killed in battle with rebels, his son, Mahamat Déby Itno, took over the reigns of the country during an 18-month transition period.

Mahamat Déby Itno, 37, is one of the sons of the late President Idris Déby. During his father's presidency, Mahamat Déby was not a prominent public figure. At that time, he was an officer and head of the presidential guard. Through this position, he was able to participate in several military operations, including the one that killed his father. And despite his apparent lack of government experience, he was given the task of leading a transition.

Thus, Tchad will be led by a "Transitional Military Council" (TMC), chaired by Mahamat Déby Itno. In a televised announcement on state television, army spokesman General Azem Bermandoa Agouna said that the son of the deceased would "guarantee national independence, territorial integrity, national unity, respect for international treaties and agreements, and ensure the transition for a period of 18 months. "

From that moment on, the government and the National Assembly were dissolved. Currently, officials are installing the new transitional government, which will proceed first with the establishment of new republican institutions.
